this ken’s job is ‘movie’

Alexander Weiditch is a GTA based filmmaker focused on crafting creative projects that bridge the gap between pop products and cinematic experiences.

Alex graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University (fka Ryerson University) in 2019 from a Bachelor in Media Production, followed by completing his MFA in 2023 as part of their inaugural Scriptwriting and Story Design Cohort.

Both of his thesis projects (one of which was advised by Oscar Nominated filmmaker Atom Egoyan) focused on visualizing blindness, a cause personal to him as the son of a member of the visual impairment community. His other features vary from period set musicals, to romantic comedies, holiday films, rock fantasies, and suburban coming of age. What unites these stories is a sense of humour and a personal lens that is unique to Alex’s life experiences.

Outside of his own creative aspirations, Alex has worked in assistant positions with the Toronto International Film Festival, Bell Media's Original Programming department, and Collective Pictures (the team behind Netflix Canada’s first film production Code 8: Part II).

He is currently directing a short film dear to his heart while writing his next feature.
